A Healthy Party in Seongsu-dong: Korean-style Hot Pot (Shabu-shabu)

Seongsudong is a place of endless temptation, from trendy eateries to Instagram-worthy—and very high-calorie—desserts. While it’s easy to have a “party-like” lunch every single day here, today I decided to go for something a bit more wholesome.

Since today’s my lunch partner is currently on a diet, we looked for a menu that was both satisfying and diet-friendly. Our choice? The classic Korean-style hot pot, Shabu-shabu.

The Ultimate Guilt-Free Feast

Shabushabu is the perfect “healthy party” meal. You get to enjoy a mountain of fresh greens, mushrooms, and thinly sliced lean beef, all simmered in a light, savory broth. It’s packed with nutrients and fiber, making it the ideal choice when you want to feel full without the heavy guilt.

Insta-Vibes and Unlimited Joy: Happy Benefit in Seongsu-dong

The stylish and vibrant interior of Happy Benefit restaurant in Seongsu.

The Shabu-shabu spot we visited today isn’t your average hot pot restaurant. It’s called ‘Happy Benefit’, and as the name suggests, it’s an all-you-can-eat feast!

From the moment we walked in, we were struck by the incredibly Insta-worthy atmosphere. It felt more like a modern art gallery than a typical Shabu-shabu place.

A large media art installation was constantly playing, filling the space with vibrant colors and a distinctly “hip” and modern energy. It definitely raised the bar for Seongsu-dong lunch spots!

The Real “Hidden Gem”

But as amazing as the media art was, the real “Insta-pick” of the day—the moment that truly stopped my scroll—was something else entirely. I’ll reveal that secret in my next photo! Keep scrolling to find out!

The Secret is Out: Meet the Adorable Mala Teddy Bear!

I promised to reveal the ultimate “Insta-pick” from my lunch at Happy Benefit, and here it is: a tiny, adorable Mala Teddy Bear! Haha.

When they brought out the two-compartment hot pot, they placed this little guy right next to it. At first, I was so confused—“Wait, what is this cute bear doing here?”

It turns out, it wasn’t a toy or a dessert—it was the Mala sauce frozen into a perfect teddy bear shape!

To kick off the spicy side of our Shabu-shabu, you gently place the bear into the pot. As the broth heats up, the bear slowly “melts” into the soup, releasing all that bold, numbing Mala flavor. It’s both incredibly cute and a little bit hilarious to watch him take a warm bath in the hot pot!

All-You-Can-Eat Joy: The Conveyor Belt Shabu-shabu Feast

Now, let the real feast begin! At ‘Happy Benefit’, lunch is 25,800(approx. $19.00) KRW and dinner is 29,800 KRW(approx. $22.00) (as of March 2026). For this price, you get unlimited access to every single plate spinning on the conveyor belt!

The “Healthy” Dilemma

Wait… didn’t I say we were here for a diet? Haha. Seeing the endless stream of fresh plates made it hard to stop! However, we stayed true to our mission as “healthy eaters” by focusing mostly on fresh vegetables and lean proteins.

Perfect for Everyone (Including Vegans!)

One of the best things about this place is the variety. With a massive selection of greens, sprouts, and mushrooms constantly rotating, it’s a fantastic option for vegans or anyone looking for a plant-based feast in the heart of Seongsu-dong.

As the conveyor belt kept bringing new treasures, the stack of empty plates on our table kept growing higher and higher. I think the server had to clear our table at least three times! ^^;;

Don’t forget the self-service bar! You can mix your own signature dipping sauces and grab some side dishes like tomato egg stir-fry, fried rice, tteokbokki, and even chicken nuggets. We finished off with some fresh pineapple for a sweet, healthy touch. ;)

Finding Your Way: The Hidden Gem in the Basement

While Google Maps will lead you to the right spot, keep this in mind: Happy Benefit is located on the B1 level. Don’t worry about getting lost in the building—there’s a dedicated staircase on the outside that leads you straight down to the entrance. It’s a bit of a hidden treasure, so keep your eyes peeled for those stairs!

Sweet Finishes Nearby

After you’ve had your fill of healthy Shabu-shabu, I highly recommend grabbing a coffee at some of my favorite local spots. Both ‘Coffee Nap Roasters’ and ‘Nudake Seongsu’ are just a short walk away. They are perfect for a post-lunch caffeine fix and offer some of the most unique vibes in Seongsu-dong.

On my walk back from lunch today, Seongsudong was buzzing with energy. I truly soaked up the vibrant “Seongsu Vibe” on my way back to the office. Whether you’re enjoying a warm spring day like me or a crisp, clear autumn wherever you are, I hope you take a moment to step outside and fully enjoy the beautiful season!

Until next time, stay healthy and happy!
