Paris is famous for the Seine, and London for the Thames. Here in Seoul, we have the magnificent Han River. But do you know what truly sets the Han River apart from the others?
It’s the fact that you can order delivery food right to your picnic mat! Haha.
In most cities, you’d have to pack your own snacks or find a nearby restaurant. But at the Han River, you can simply tap an app and have hot, crispy fried chicken or savory Jjajangmyeon delivered directly to your spot by the water. It’s the ultimate Korean outdoor dining experience that you won’t find anywhere else in the world!

Even though it’s a bit hard to see in the photo, we had ordered a feast! We had everything from crispy Korean fried chicken and gooey pizza to spicy tteokbokki. We all gathered around the picnic mats and ate until we were absolutely stuffed. There’s nothing like a feast by the water!

If you look closely at the background, you might spot a huge crowd of staff and equipment. Believe it or not, the legendary Korean variety show, Infinite Challenge (Muhan Dojeon), was filming right behind us that day!
The Magic of K-Delivery: Food Arrives at the Center of the Park!
You might be wondering, “How on earth did you get all that food in the middle of a park with no restaurants in sight?”
Well, in Korea, we call ourselves the “Nation of Delivery” (Baedal-ui Minjok). Whether it’s 2 AM or you’re in a massive park, as long as you aren’t in the middle of a remote mountain, you can get almost any food delivered right to your fingertips through an app!
How does the rider find us?
When we order, we drop a pin on the digital map. Once the delivery rider arrives nearby, they give us a call, and we share a recognizable landmark (like a specific tree or a convenience store) to meet up.
These days, it’s even easier! Many parks have designated “Delivery Zones,” which act as a meeting point for customers and riders. Since delivery usually takes only about 30 minutes, by the time you’ve found a good spot and settled in, your hot meal is already arriving!
On beautiful Spring or Autumn evenings, the Han River parks are bustling with people enjoying fried chicken and instant ramen under the stars. It’s a quintessential Seoul experience!
Whenever my foreign friends visit Seoul, I always tell them one thing: “Go experience the romance of the Han River.”It’s the soul of the city!
Actually, my nephew is coming all the way from Canada next week! I’ve already planned a special day for us. We’re going to rent bicycles and ride along the riverbank, soaking in the skyline. And of course, the grand finale? Eating instant ramen right by the water!

McDonald’s delivery is great, but there is one thing my son welcomes with even more excitement: Korean Fried Chicken.
I’m 100% certain that if you asked him what he’d want for his final meal on earth, his answer would be “Chicken!” without a second’s hesitation. He begs to order it at least once a week.
Thanks to his undying loyalty to the golden-fried bird, I think I’ve actually grown tired of chicken much faster than I ever expected. I’m not sure if I should thank him for helping me avoid the calories, or lament the loss of my appetite for one of the world’s favorite foods! Haha.

As much as my son loves snacks, a mother’s priority is always a proper, hearty meal. On busy weekends when there’s no time to cook and he has a packed schedule, delivery apps are my best friend.
I ordered a spread that could satisfy any hunger: savory Bulgogi, crispy Donkasu (Pork Cutlet), and a classic Kimchi-jjigae (Kimchi Stew). It’s the perfect energy boost for a long day ahead!

But here’s a fun observation—Koreans have a truly creative way of eating! Have you ever heard of putting a crispy, fried pork cutlet into a boiling pot of Kimchi stew? It might sound strange to some, but this combination is a huge hit here.
The crispy coating of the cutlet absorbs the spicy, tangy broth, creating a unique texture that’s both soft and flavorful. It’s a testament to how Koreans love to experiment with flavors and textures!
