In Seongsu-dong, I’ve noticed that <Family Son-kalguksu & Bossam> has recently become an “Open-Run” (queuing before opening) hotspot for tourists from Japan and East Asia. However, this golden information hasn’t quite hit the radar of travelers from the US or Europe yet. So, I’m here to give you the exclusive scoop! Hahaha.

<Family Son-kalguksu & Bossam> is not just a restaurant to me; it’s a place filled with “Jeong” (Korean affection and warm-heartedness). It’s my go-to spot whenever I want to treat a friend visiting Seongsu-dong for the first time, and it’s also our favorite choice for company dinners. The owner is incredibly kind—once you become a regular, don’t be surprised if he treats your whole group to coffee and bread! You can tell he runs this place for the joy of sharing, rather than just profit.

The Ultimate Lunch Deal: Bossam Jung-sik
If you visit during lunch, you must order the “Bossam Jung-sik” (Bossam Set Menu). For just 15,000 KRW (approx. $11.00), you get an unbelievable spread.
Tender Bossam(Korean-style slow-cooked pork),Fresh Kimchi (The kind of crunchy, seasoned-to-perfection kimchi that makes your mouth water.), Son-kalguksu(A bowl of comforting, handmade knife-cut noodle soup.), A Bowl of Rice(To make sure you leave completely full!)
In an area like Seongsu-dong, where prices can be quite high, finding this level of quality and quantity for $11 is like finding a hidden treasure.

Evening Vibes: Savory Pancakes and Seasonal Delights
While the Bossam Jung-sik is my go-to for lunch, the magic of this place truly shines in the evening when you can pair your meal with a drink.
The Perfect Sidekicks: Pajeon, Gamja-jeon, and Mandu
If you’re visiting for dinner with friends, you must try their savory pancakes. The Seafood Pajeon (Scallion Pancake) is packed with flavor, and the Gamja-jeon (Potato Pancake) is incredibly crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Don’t forget to order a side of their Mandu (Dumplings)—they are plump, juicy, and the perfect companion to a cold drink!
A Summer Special: Kong-guksu (Soy Milk Noodle Soup)
As the weather gets warmer, the restaurant introduces its seasonal star: Kong-guksu. This is a cold noodle dish served in a creamy, nutty, and chilled soy milk broth.

Yesterday, I finished work quite late, and my son was waiting to have dinner with me. Since he’s currently in the middle of his exam period and staying up late to study, I wanted to give him a meal that was both nutritious and easy on the stomach before bed. That’s when I decided to stop by <Family Son-kalguksu & Bossam> on my way home!
This was my first time ordering takeout from here, and I was so impressed—the quality was just as amazing as eating at the restaurant.
Perfect for Families and Busy Souls
If the long wait times at the restaurant feel a bit overwhelming, or if you have young children and prefer the comfort of your own home, I highly recommend their takeout or delivery service!
My Takeout Order is Bossam(Korean-style slow-cooked pork) & Son-kalguksu(These arrived perfectly packed and tasted incredibly fresh.) And Gamja-jeon (Potato Pancake): While delicious, here is my honest tip: If you are taking it to-go, I think the Haemul Pajeon (Seafood Scallion Pancake) might be a better choice as it tends to hold its flavor and texture better even after it cools down a bit!

The Art of the Perfect Bite: How to Eat Bossam Like a Local
When it comes to Bossam, everyone has their own style. You could just lightly dip the tender pork in Saeu-jeot (salted shrimp) to appreciate the meat’s natural flavor, but let me share my absolute favorite way to have that “perfect bite.”
My Golden Formula:
- Pick a fresh, crunchy Napa cabbage leaf (Al-baechu).
- Place a slice of meat that is as soft as butter on top.
- Add a generous amount of spicy radish kimchi (Moo-kimchi).
- Top it off with a tiny bit of Ssamjang (savory soybean paste) and a slice of garlic.
- Take a huge bite and enjoy the explosion of textures and flavors!

The Finishing Touch: Freshly Cooked Kalguksu
After losing ourselves in the Bossam feast, we moved on to the Son-kalguksu. Since I brought the noodles home uncooked (non-prepped), I could boil them right before eating. This ensured the noodles were perfectly chewy and the broth was piping hot—just like at the restaurant! Pairing it with their fresh Geotjeori (unfermented kimchi) was the ultimate way to end the day. ;)

If you’re staying in or around the Seongsu area and want to skip the lines entirely, you’re in luck! This local favorite is available on Korea’s top delivery apps.
You can find them on Coupang Eats and Baedal Minjeok (Baemin).
- Search Tip: Simply type “훼미리 손칼국수 보쌈” or “Family Son-kalguksu” in the search bar.
Delivery Radius (Where do they deliver?)
Since the restaurant is located in the heart of Seongsu-dong, they generally cover a wide radius around the neighborhood.
- Primary Areas: Seongsu-dong 1-ga & 2-ga, Jayang-dong, and parts of Hwayang-dong.
- Extended Reach: Depending on the app’s current driver availability, you can often get delivery to nearby areas like Konkuk University station, Ttukseom, and even parts of Seoul Forest.
If you are staying at an Airbnb or a hotel in these areas, this is the perfect “stay-in” dinner option. Just a few taps, and a warm, healthy, “butter-soft” Bossam feast will be on its way!
