The Ultimate Seongsu-dong Guide for Groups: 4 Spacious Yet Ultra-Hip Cafes

There is no denying that Seongsu-dong boasts some of the most incredibly atmospheric and hip cafes in Seoul. However, if you are planning a family trip or traveling with a group of four or more friends, you quickly run into a frustrating wall: “Why are all these spaces so tiny?!”

You aren’t imagining things. As the reigning trendiest neighborhood in Seoul—often dubbed the “Brooklyn of Seoul”—most of Seongsu’s cafes and restaurants are housed in beautifully renovated old red-brick factories and historic residential homes. While they are overflowing with character, their interior layouts are notoriously narrow, cramped, and tightly packed.

Just like my previous guide where I highlighted the best spacious, group-friendly dining spots and cafes around Gangnam Station, today I am bringing you the definitive solution for the East side of Seoul. Here are 4 exceptionally spacious yet undeniably gorgeous cafes in Seongsu-dong that are perfect for larger groups and families!

These spots offer plenty of breathing room, are far less suffocatingly crowded than your average tiny espresso bar, and most importantly, do not compromise on style. If you’ve been stressing over where to take your crew for a comfortable coffee break, keep reading—your aesthetic sanctuary awaits!

Spot 1. Cafe ‘5 to 7’: A Vertical Sanctuary of Soufflés and Sunshine

The first destination on our group-friendly checklist is ‘5 to 7’ (오투칠), a cafe famous for its heavenly, cloud-like soufflé pancakes.

A high-satisfaction close-up shot of the famous, ultra-fluffy souffle pancake topped with rich cream at 5 to 7 cafe.

The unique name of this spot holds a beautiful poetic meaning: it represents the magical hours between 5 PM and 7 PM, the time of day when the warmest, most beautiful sunset glows. True to its name, the cafe is designed to let you fully appreciate the changing light and relaxing vibes throughout the day.

The bright, airy, and beautifully structured two-story interior layout of 5 to 7 Seongsu, perfect for tour groups.

What makes ‘5 to 7’ an absolute lifesaver for groups is its layout. They occupy an entire multi-story building. Because the space is vertically separated across several floors, it feels incredibly spacious and well-organized. A large family or a big group of friends can easily claim a dedicated section or even a whole floor to themselves without worrying about bothering other guests.

On top of the spacious seating, the visual openness here is spectacular. The massive floor-to-ceiling windows offer a refreshingly wide view of the bustling streets below, perfectly framed by the lush, green leaves of nearby trees.

Sharing a massive, jiggly soufflé cake with your crew while soaking in that airy, sunlit ambiance is the ultimate way to experience a comfortable, stylish afternoon in Seongsu-dong!

At Cafe ‘5 to 7,’ every cup of coffee and every single dish feels like it has been crafted with an extra spoonful of love and sincerity.

Speaking of their specialty, did you know that authentic, melt-in-your-mouth soufflé pancakes are a notoriously slow-crafted dessert? They cannot be rushed! Each order is whipped up fresh from scratch and slowly baked to pillowy perfection.

Spot 2. Cafe PLAD: A Hidden Architectural Gem for Design Lovers

The second hidden oasis for groups is Cafe PLAD (플래드 카페).

As you already know, I love guiding you past the generic tourist traps and introducing you to the true, under-the-radar spots that only authentic Seongsu-dong locals cherish. Cafe PLAD is precisely that—a hidden jewel that remains blissfully free from the suffocating, overwhelming crowds of the main streets. Because it sits peacefully at the very end of a quiet alley near Seoul Forest, it feels like a secluded sanctuary.

Like our first spot, Cafe PLAD utilizes an entire standalone building. The table layout on each floor is incredibly generous and spacious, meaning a large group can effortlessly walk in, claim a spot, and laugh together without ever feeling like they are intruding on anyone else’s space.

Inside, your eyes will be instantly treated to a visual feast of modern, sophisticated furniture and curated art pieces scattered throughout the floors.

If you venture up to the rooftop, you are greeted by an expansive, refreshing view that stretches across the lush canopy of Seoul Forest all the way to the distant Han River. It is the absolute ultimate spot to enjoy a terrace coffee on a clear day.

When I visited, I was personally going through a season where my mind desperately needed a moment of absolute peace and quiet. ^^;; Sitting right in front of the massive floor-to-ceiling window, staring out at the vibrant, green trees, I was able to just breathe, wind down, and enjoy a deeply therapeutic, healing pocket of time.

Let’s be completely honest—you didn’t travel all the way to Seongsu-dong, the absolute mecca of Seoul’s youth culture and hip trends, just to end up sitting inside a generic, boring franchise coffee chain simply because your group is too large! That would be an absolute tragedy.

But you don’t have to sacrifice style for space. I am here to make sure you get the absolute best of both worlds: the generous, breathing room your crew needs, paired with that iconic, ultra-hip Seongsu vibe you came for! ; )

Spot 3. Daelim Changgo: The Legendary Pioneer of Seongsu’s Factory Vibes

Now, let’s take a short, pleasant walk and move over to the bustling heart of Yeonmujang-gil. The third destination for our group itinerary is a venue that is practically synonymous with the neighborhood itself: Daelim Changgo (대림창고).

Experiencing the absolute pinnacle of Seoul's grand-scale industrial cafe heritage and welcoming hospitality at Daelim Changgo.

As the original pioneer and ultimate symbol of Seongsu’s large-scale gallery cafes, Daelim Changgo completely redefines industrial elegance. The moment your group steps inside this beautifully preserved warehouse, you will be instantly awed by the jaw-droppingly high ceilings and the sheer, expansive raw scale of the former factory grounds.

A vast and rustic long wooden communal table filled with gourmet coffee and pastries, accommodating a large tour group at Daelim Changgo.

For large parties, this place is an absolute dream. Not only does it feature massive, sprawling wooden tables designed specifically to accommodate big groups comfortably, but the layout is also beautifully deceptive—as you explore deeper into its various wings and artistic corners, more and more hidden seating spaces constantly reveal themselves. You will practically never have to stress about finding enough seats for your entire crew here.

💡 Friendly Local Warning: Why Daelim Changgo Beats Cafe ‘Onion’ for Groups

You might hear about Cafe Onion (어니언), another famous factory-renovated spot in the area that shares a similar “endless labyrinth” structure.

However, as a local, I highly discourage taking large groups to Onion these days.Because it has become incredibly overrun with massive waves of tourists, the environment is intensely chaotic. Furthermore, Onion’s layout breaks the seating into tiny, fragmented, and often physically uncomfortable structural nooks. While the aesthetic is undeniably beautiful, it is a logistical nightmare for a big group trying to stay together.

Spot 4. Cafe FAR BEN: A Masterclass in Spacious, Breathing Room Layouts

Our final destination brings us full circle to a place we just recently explored: Cafe FAR BEN (카페파벤), famously known as the hidden gem run by BTS RM’s younger sister!

While Cafe FAR BEN might not boast the raw, industrial football-field scale of places like Daelim Changgo, it stands out as an absolute savior for groups due to its ingenious, highly intentional layout. Instead of cramming as many seats as possible into the floor plan, the cafe features oversized, massive tables paired with incredibly generous, wide-open spacing between them

This brilliant design choice means that even if you walk in with a large family or your entire travel crew, you will never experience that cramped, claustrophobic feeling so common in other Seongsu hotspots. Your group can sit comfortably, spread out your belongings, and deeply breathe in the artistic ambiance without ever feeling trapped or suffocating.
