Cruising Through Gangnam Station : Spacious Restaurant & Cafe Guide for Families and Groups
Hello everyone! Today, I’m back with a super practical guide for anyone planning a family trip or traveling with a large group to one of Seoul’s busiest hubs: Gangnam Station!
This past weekend, I headed out to Gangnam Station to celebrate a close friend’s birthday. For many of my global readers, Gangnam is probably the most familiar neighborhood in Korea, right?! Wow, how time flies—can you believe how long it’s been since Psy’s “Gangnam Style” took the entire world by storm? ^^

As I was making my way to the meetup spot, I was instantly reminded of just how massive the Gangnam crowds can be. It had been quite a while since I visited—I used to hang out here all the time during my college days—and seeing that the energy and the endless sea of people haven’t changed one bit was so nostalgic.

Walking through those streets instantly triggered a beautiful flashback to the year 2002, when South Korea co-hosted the FIFA World Cup. Back then, the entire nation transformed into the official “Red Devils” supporters’ group to cheer on the national team, and the scale of it was simply mind-blowing. Imagine an entire 8-lane highway completely shut down to traffic, packed to the brim with millions of people all wearing matching red shirts, cheering in perfect unison.
Even now, just thinking about it gives me goosebumps! It was a legendary moment where the whole country united as one. And as for me? I was in my prime, living out my passionate 20s, and I cheered and celebrated with absolute, unfiltered joy. It remains one of the happiest, most unforgettable chapters of my youth. ^^

Anyway, seeing how crowded Gangnam still is made me think: “Wow, if someone is traveling here with their family or a big tour group, finding a restaurant or a cafe with enough seating must be a total nightmare.”
Lucky for you, the spots we ended up visiting for the birthday party happened to be incredibly spacious, beautifully designed, and perfect for groups! I knew right then and there that I had to document and share these gems with you.

The Ultimate Crowd-Pleaser for Groups: Din Tai Fung Gangnam
Among the endless sea of restaurants surrounding Gangnam Station, the ultimate oasis where group travelers can truly dine in peace is Din Tai Fung (딘타이펑).
Why Din Tai Fung is a Must-Visit in Gangnam
Since Din Tai Fung has branches in major cities all around the world, the name itself probably feels instantly familiar to many of you! When traveling with a large family or carrying strollers, squeezing into a tiny, cramped local alley restaurant in Gangnam can be incredibly stressful.

But here, the space is exceptionally vast, bright, and airy, meaning you can focus entirely on enjoying your meal without feeling claustrophobic. Plus, we already know their food is universally loved and verified by foodies worldwide—it is quite literally a “fail-proof” choice for anyone’s palate.
📍 Quick Navigation Tip! When you follow your maps to the location, please note that the restaurant is situated on the 2nd floor. Keep an eye out for the clear signage at the entrance so you don’t accidentally pass it by! ; )

While the main dining hall is wonderful, we actually booked our table further inside for a more private and exclusive vibe.
Because we were tucked away in the quieter inner section of the restaurant, we were able to escape the general hustle and bustle completely. It allowed us to have deep, uninterrupted conversations and fully focus on celebrating our friend’s birthday in peace.

The Legendary All-Star Menu & Stress-Free Ordering
As for the menu, it features all the legendary classics loved worldwide: from the juicy burst of Xiao Long Bao (샤오롱바오) to sweet and sour pork, crispy egg rolls, savory steamed bok choy/greens, refreshing crunchy cucumber salad, and fluffy shrimp fried rice. You probably know these iconic dishes even better than I do! ^^
📱 How to Use the Table Kiosk (Ultra-Convenient!): Every table is equipped with a digital “Table Order” tablet. You can browse high-resolution photos of every dish, switch the language settings, and place your order with a few simple taps without having to flag down a waiter—making it incredibly hassle-free for big groups and international travelers!
Seeing this modern system instantly brought back a funny memory from my very first visit to a Din Tai Fung in Hong Kong years ago. Back then, I remember feeling completely dizzy and overwhelmed trying to navigate a massive, endless menu written entirely in a foreign language! Oh, how I wish this tablet ordering system had existed back then. Haha. It makes dining with a large group so much more seamless and enjoyable today! ; )
Part 2: Cafe ALVER – A Hidden Giant Forest in Gangnam

The Gangnam Cafe Dilemma: Escaping the Tiny Aesthetic Traps
Now that we’ve had a flawless and satisfying meal, it’s time for our large group to move on to the next destination: dessert and coffee!
Honestly, Gangnam is absolutely packed with incredibly cool, hip, and trendy indie cafes. However, there is a major catch for groups—most of these highly aesthetic spots have very limited, cramped seating, making it practically impossible for a large family or a big group of friends to sit together.
While mega-chains like Starbucks or The Coffee Bean are always a safe, spacious backup plan, it feels a bit disappointing to visit a generic corporate chain when you’ve traveled all the way to Seoul, doesn’t it? You want something with local character!
So, to burn off some of those delicious Xiao Long Bao calories, we decided to take a leisurely 12-minute walk through the vibrant streets of Gangnam to a hidden gem of a cafe that perfectly bridges the gap: massive space meets incredible vibes! Follow me!

Following Google Maps, we suddenly stumbled upon something incredibly rare for Gangnam: a massive, grand residential mansion beautifully converted into a multi-story cafe! In a hyper-urban district like Gangnam, seeing a terrace overflowing with such lush, towering, and majestic trees felt like stepping into an entirely different world.

Even before entering the front doors, we noticed the outdoor terrace was packed with plenty of seating. If you are traveling with toddlers or young children and feel a bit anxious about keeping them quiet in a crowded indoor setting, this open-air terrace is the ultimate stress-free sanctuary!

Heading inside, we were absolutely blown away by the sheer, overwhelming scale. The cafe spans all the way from the basement up to the 3rd floor. It can effortlessly accommodate large tour groups, and what I loved most was how widely spaced out the tables were—no cramped seating here!

Since the evening weather was beautiful, our group opted for the outdoor terrace. Having those beautiful trees constantly in our line of sight made us forget we were in the middle of Seoul’s busiest party district; it felt so incredibly refreshing and revitalizing.

💡 A Quick Seasonal Tip! While the night vibe out on the terrace was absolutely magical, I did think to myself that summer mosquitoes might start crashing the party pretty soon! If you are visiting during the peak, scorching summer months, skipping the woody terrace and opting for the ultra-cool, air-conditioned indoor floors will definitely be your best bet! ; )
