I’m back, just as I promised! Did you check out my previous post where I recommended authentic local restaurants near SM (Kwangya) for all the K-POP fans visiting Seongsu-dong?
Now, since we’ve had a great meal, it’s time for a cup of coffee—because that’s the true Korean way! ^^
Did you know that an average Korean adult consumes about 405 to 416 cups of coffee per year? That’s more than 1.1 cups every single day. In fact, South Korea ranks second in coffee consumption worldwide, right after France (approx. 551 cups). Considering the global average is only about 152 cups… that’s quite fascinating, isn’t it?
Actually, I’m a prime example! I start my morning with a cup of coffee at work (or on my way there), have another after lunch, and often one more during a tea break in the afternoon. I easily find myself drinking 2 or 3 cups a day.
Many Koreans enjoy a cup of coffee right after lunch. If time permits, we linger at a cafe; otherwise, we grab a cup to-go back to the office. In my opinion, since Korean meals often involve bold seasonings compared to salads or sandwiches, they can leave a lingering “heavy” aftertaste. That’s why we crave something like an Iced Americano to “refresh and cleanse” our palate after a meal.
Anyway, without further ado, let me introduce you to some must-visit cafes near Kwangya! ;)
The Essence of Australian Coffee Culture: <Milestone Coffee>
Milestone Coffee is where they serve my absolute favorite latte. Their coffee made with oat milk is so nutty and delicious that it’s actually painful when I crave it on weekends when I’m not at work. (I mean, I can’t exactly commute all the way to the office just for a cup of coffee!)
And while the shop might look small from the outside, if you walk through the interior, there’s a backyard where you can enjoy your coffee outdoors! On a beautiful day, sitting in an outdoor chair with a gentle breeze while sipping on a warm cup of coffee… it’s pure bliss. That’s why I sometimes visit this cafe alone, slightly after the lunch rush when it’s a bit quieter.
Cloud-like Perfection : The Ultimate Soufflé Pancakes at <5 to 7>
Do you guys know this? In Korea, we have a saying that there’s a separate stomach for dinner and another one just for dessert. (Is it the same in your country?) Even when we feel like we’re about to burst after a full meal, we somehow manage to eat dessert as if it’s our very first bite of the day! ^^
After a hearty Korean meal of rice and stew, nothing beats the craving for something sweet. A bite of a sugary dessert followed by a sip of Americano—it feels like your palate is getting a fresh reset! Haha. If you’re nodding your head right now, you need to pay attention to this place.
It’s called <5 to 7>, a spot famous for its incredibly fluffy and airy soufflé pancakes. It’s so fascinating to watch the batter rise into such a wobbly, cloud-like shape without collapsing. (And yes, they taste amazing!) Trust me on this—if your stomach is full of Korean food, these pancakes will actually taste even better.
A Sensory Pause in the Heart of Seongsu: <FLAD CAFE>
One of the downsides of Seongsu–dong is that many of its unique, charming shops are quite cramped, making it tricky for larger groups to find seating together. While these tiny spots have their own character, it can be a bit inconvenient if you’re traveling with family or a big group of friends.
That’s where <FLAD CAFE> comes to the rescue. Since the entire building is dedicated to the cafe, there is plenty of room for everyone. What’s even better is that despite its size, the space is filled with sophisticated, high-end objects and decor that are a feast for the eyes. If you’ve made it all the way to Seongsu–dong—the heart of Seoul’s “hip” culture—it would be a shame to settle for a generic franchise coffee shop. If you want both space and style, this is your answer.
A Hidden Gem in the Alleys of Seongsu: <EPA SEOUL>, the Secret Espresso Bar
Do you enjoy espresso? To be honest, I’ve only recently truly discovered the real charm of it. I used to think espresso was just bitter, but I was so wrong—it’s actually incredibly nutty and savory.
<EPA> in Seongsu–dong is a space that focuses on the rich density of authentic espresso while embracing the raw, rugged charm unique to the neighborhood. Since it’s tucked away in an alley rather than sitting on a busy main street, it offers a wonderful, quiet mood. In the summer, you can enjoy ice cream at the outdoor tables, or join the trend of stacking up 3 or 4 empty espresso cups after finishing them. There’s no right or wrong way—just enjoy it however you like!
[ Closed ] Indulge in Exquisite Madeleines and Financiers at <La Pleine>
<La Pleine> exudes a warm, classic vibe that makes you feel as if you’ve been invited into a cozy home somewhere in Europe. Since it’s located in a quiet spot, it’s never overly crowded, allowing you to enjoy your time in a relaxed atmosphere.
I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves high-quality baked treats, as they offer a superb selection of sophisticated pastries. (A small heads-up: the prices for the baked goods are on the higher side.)

I have some bittersweet news for those who were planning to visit La Pleine. As of March 2026, I noticed that the shop has unfortunately closed its doors and the building is currently under renovation.
It’s always a little sad to say goodbye to a local favorite, but that’s the fast-paced energy of Seongsu-dong for you! I’m already keeping a close eye on the construction site to see what exciting new spot will take its place.
[Closed] Seongsu’s Hidden Treasure for Dessert Lovers: <Como Yoon>
<Como Yoon> is famous for its exquisite canelés and financiers. Thanks to their sophisticated packaging, it’s a great place for gifts—I often pick up something here whenever I need a thoughtful, light present for someone.
What truly sets this place apart is their famous “Canelé Chips.” The canelés are cut into quarters and served with a side of fresh whipped cream for dipping. People keep coming back for that perfect harmony: the “crispy on the outside, moist on the inside” texture of the canelé paired with the sweet, velvety whipped cream. ;)

As of March 2026, Como Yoon has officially ended its operations at its current location. They are currently preparing for a grand reopening at a new, expanded location.
Seongsu’s Hidden Cottage Vibe: <Picking Pleasure> Cafe
This is a place that makes you wonder, “If I were to visit a rural village in Europe, wouldn’t it be just as exotic and peaceful as this?” That’s why I love it here—it makes a city dweller like me feel like I’ve suddenly whisked away on a vacation. Except for the cold winter months, they open up the outdoor seating, allowing you to breathe in the fresh air and soak in the space, which creates an even more tranquil and relaxed atmosphere.
Also, keep in mind that they put a lot of effort into their desserts, so you can look forward to treats that are as beautiful to look at as they are delicious to eat.
